5 Pictures you Need to take on on your Child's Birthday
So begins a new year. And one thing that means is a year full of birthdays. Yes, I know I’m good at stating the obvious, but I’m heading towards something important. The point being, here at Photographvie we want to help you snap the family photo’s you are hoping for on those special days. Because it’s hard to have the head-space to plan which pictures you are going to take, when mostly you are scouring the internet for dinosaur-themed chair-covers (who knew there was such a thing?) and wondering out loud how many party rings you should provide for twenty 5 year olds?
Read on for our best 5 ideas of pictures to take on your child’s Birthday
1. Firstly, snap that early morning shot. The excitement is at it’s peak when they first awake – screaming ‘IS IT MY BIRTHDAY???!!!!’ as if you didn’t tell them that at least 600 times last night while they were refusing to lay still and go to sleep. So when they jump excitedly into your bed in the morning, turn the camera around and snap a selfie, or get your partner to take a couple. Just try not to grimace too much as they bounce on your bladder until you agree they can in fact eat chocolate for breakfast, and it’s not just a long held Birthday myth.
2. Why not try a different approach to presents and put the camera down while they are opening them this year. It’s actually nice to be present in the moment (oh no I didn't just write that did I?) instead of being behind the lens. For a change, perhaps try some natural photos a little later while they are playing with their new toys or building that model aeroplane they received. These are the kind of photos you are more likely to put in a frame or look at fondly in an album, especially because those present opening pictures are often a blur of wrapping and arms.
3. Taking a Milestone photo is a great way to remember their special day. Put them next to something that has their age on, a birthday badge, the cake, or a few of their birthday cards. Or even better something like the Chalkboard below. They change so quickly that having a little reminder of what their favourite colour was when they were four, or what song they used to shout tunelessly along to in the car when they were three, is utterly priceless.
4. The birthday party picture. Whether it’s a quiet trip to the cinema with a few friends or a bundle of screaming soft play, your kids will love looking back at those pictures and spotting their childhood friends. If you want a posed photo try asking them to have a massive squeezy hug (parental warning- this may be ill advised in the soft play scenario as it may turn into a 30-child bundle, resulting in Jumpy James Johnson needing medical attention) or all leaping in the air at the same time?
5. And finally, but by no means least importantly the must-take, obligatory family photo- including YOU!!! Go on, set that camera on self timer, and run run run. If nothing else it’s sure to be met with hilarity about making it in front of the camera on time!! And you can rest-assured there's nothing quite like a family picture with you all squeezed together in a big clump, to make you feel all gooey and sentimental inside. Don’t say I didn’t warn you...
